Where Water Deepens draws you into the shifting depths of the ocean, where turquoise, deep blue and flashes of light move across the surface of the raw canvas.
Layers of paint gather, dissolve and emerge again, creating the feeling of looking into water without ever quite knowing where the surface ends and the depths begin. Darker passages sit alongside brighter, almost luminous areas, holding both the energy and spaciousness of the sea.
There is something about deep water that asks us to look a little longer. This painting grew from that feeling — the sense that a landscape can be more than something we observe; it can awaken something within us too.
Created on unstretched cotton canvas, Where Water Deepens brings the colour, movement and atmosphere of the coast into an interior while retaining the tactile, uncontained quality of the original canvas.
