Tide (1)
Tides (1) is the first painting in Incoming Tides, a developing series inspired by the movement, rhythm and quiet power of water.
Across the wide canvas, pale blues gather and dissolve around deeper, sweeping marks. There is no fixed horizon and no single view of the sea. Instead, the painting follows the sensation of water itself. Currents overlapping, pulling in different directions and continually reshaping what came before.
Fine drips, broken lines and areas of raised texture move through the softer surface. Some marks seem to come towards you while others disappear into the distance, creating a feeling of movement that continues beyond the edges of the canvas.
There is something quietly compelling about an incoming tide. Its power doesn't arrive all at once; it builds gradually, almost imperceptibly, until the landscape has changed. Tides (1) holds something of that feeling. The meeting of softness and strength, stillness and movement.
For someone who feels most themselves near the water, this painting brings that sense of openness into the home. A piece of the coast without depicting a particular place.
